Miss your goal, we send your money to your ex: how money works in Ultimatum
, 2 min read

You promise yourself at night: up at seven tomorrow. By morning, the promise doesn't feel so serious. Miss your goal, and nothing happens. That's the problem.
In Ultimatum, something happens. Miss your goal, we send your money to your ex. Well, if you want: it's one of three options. And it works precisely because nobody wants to read a text from their ex saying "thanks for the €20".
Ultimatum is an app for doing what you said, when you said you would. You set a goal with a time, like getting up or going to the gym, prove it with a photo in time, and leave a guarantee so that missing it costs you something. Here's what happens to that money, short and clear.
How much you put down and when you're charged
You pick the amount before you promise, whatever you like. Nothing is charged when you promise. The amount is only held on your card, like when you book a hotel.
- You keep it: you take the photo in time, the hold disappears and not a cent moves.
- You don't: you're charged what you chose, not a cent more.
If the failure is ours (the app, the servers), nothing is charged. And if something real comes up, you claim it within 48 hours and a person from the team reviews it.
Miss your goal: where your money goes
You choose before you start:
- A charity (default): 80% goes to the charity you pick from our list. 20% covers the app's costs.
- Us: if knowing we keep it motivates you more. No judgement.
- Your ex: we send it to them. No hard feelings. Well, maybe a few.
Pick the one you'd hate losing to most. That's the one that gets you out of bed.
No money: your apps as the guarantee
If you don't want to put money down, choose €0 and leave your apps as the guarantee. Miss it, and Ultimatum blocks the ones you choose, like TikTok or Instagram, for a few days.
No subscription
Ultimatum costs nothing a month. You only pay if you don't keep your word, and you choose the amount. It comes to iPhone first, in Spain, and joining the beta is free.
